river Located where the north flowing Raquette River makes a sharp, 90 degree turn to the right on it's way to the St. Lawrence River, Raymondville was named after early Potsdam businessman Bejamin Raymond. He had moved his family in 1816 to what was then called Rackerton - now known as Raymondville. Many of the area brick homes were constructed of bricks made from an abundant supply of clay found along the river, according to "The St. Lawrence County Almanac". Like neighboring Norfolk, a bit further upstream, Raymondville became a bustling industrial town in the 19th century, with mills and factories. The community is much quieter now.
