The community of Blue
Mountain Lake is located along
the shore of beautiful Blue Mountain Lake, with Blue Mountain
dominating the horizon. Between both is the Adirondack Museum,
the premier
source of information and artifacts relating to the history, both
natural and cultural, of the Adirondack region. The Museum is built on
the site of Merwin's Blue Mountain House - a 19th century hotel.![]() Blue Mountain Lake is linked to Raquette Lake and the Raquette River by Utowana and Eagle Lakes, and the Marion River - once the site of the shortest standard-guage railroad line in the country. Covering all of 1,300 feet, it operated from 1900 to 1929, built to link steamboat routes running between the Blue Mountain and Raquette Lakes. The steam engine and its passenger and baggage car are on display at the Adirondack Museum. It is now a popular paddling route. ![]() There are many
great opportunities for participating in outdoor recreation in
the beautiful Blue Mountain Lake area. They include hiking,
paddling, sailing, skiing, camping, snow-mobiling, hunting, and
fishing. The Blue Mountain summit is topped by a restored firetower
that offers wonderful 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains.

Center for the Arts
provides a full schedule of exhibits and performances throughout the
